KL stocks up 0.7pc on buying interest (18.03.2009)

MALAYSIAN shares closed up 0.70 per cent today due to gains in selected blue chips and improved buying interest, dealers said.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index gained 6.09 points to 847.96, with advancers outpacing decliners 301 to 156.

The day''s turnover increased to 343.033 million shares RM496.622 million from yesterday''s 333.006 million shares valued at RM579.567 million.

"The CI maintained its gain supported by both foreign and local institutions and strong market sentiment," dealers said.

There were also some mild profit-taking activities in the market especially on lower liners as investors remained concerned over the global economic outlook," a dealer said.

Among the actives, KNM rose half sen to 35 sen, Resorts fell two sen to RM1.90 and Compugates declined half sen to 14.5 sen.

Among the heavyweights, Sime Darby closed five sen lower at RM5.50, Tenaga Nasional rose 10 sen to RM6.05, Maybank advanced six sen to RM4.08 and TM gained two sen to RM3.52. - AFP, Bernama
