KL stocks edge up despite profit-taking

MALAYSIAN shares closed up 0.40 per cent today despite profit-taking by retail investors, dealers said.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index gained 3.89 points to 965.17, with decliners outpacing gainers 356 to 243.

“There was some rotational interest from lower liners back into blue chips and some heavyweights,” a dealer said.

“This helped to keep the index on positive territory,” he added.

The dealer also said the key index may trade between 980 and 1000 points next week if buying interest can be sustained.

Among the gainers, automaker Proton added 8.20 per cent to RM2.65 while Tenaga rose 2.90 per cent to RM7.10.

On the downside, AirAsia lost 4.2 per cent to RM1.14 and Petronas Gas was down 0.50 per cent to RM9.60. - AFP
