KL Share End Day On Mixed Note (20.04.2009)

BURSA Malaysia finished on mixed note today as mild gains on selected heavyweights, led by Sime Darby, Tenaga Nasional and DRB-HICOM, pushed the key index 0.33 per cent higher, dealers said.

Overall, the market breath was positive and the benchmark Kuala Lumpur Composite Index managed to consolidate its recent gains to gain 3.20 points to close at 968.37.

It had opened 1.73 points higher at 966.90.

The Industrial Index gained 8.63 points to 2,238.34 and the Plantation Index went up 18.77 points to 4,933.09.



The Finance Index, however, declined 53.23 points to 7,369.95.
The FBMEmas rose 20.96 points to 6,383.53 and the FBM30 increased 33.77 points to 6,208.37.

The FBM2BRD, however, was 2.65 points lower at 4,091.29 and the FBM-MDQ declined 25.35 points to 3,312.14.

Losers outnumbered gainers by 327 to 233 while 198 counters were unchanged, 484 untraded and 36 others suspended.

Volume stood at 796.464 million shares worth RM883.539 million, down from last Friday's closing of 1.012 billion shares worth RM1.088 billion.

Among the actives, KNM Group perked 1.5 sen to 54.5 sen and Axiata rose eight sen to RM1.91 while Axiata-OR gained 8.5 sen to 69 sen.

UEM Land lost 3.5 sen to 95.5 sen and Chin Well eased 13 sen to 80.5 sen. Of heavyweights, Sime Darby gained five sen to RM6.45, Tenaga Nasional went up 10 sen to RM7.20, Proton rose 34 sen to RM2.99 and DRB-HICOM perked 22.5 sen to RM1.08.

Maybank lost 10 sen to RM4.30 and Telekom Malaysia was flat at RM3.64.

Volume on the Main Board fell to 725.420 million shares worth RM870.012 million from 839.989 million shares worth RM1.057 billion on Friday.

Turnover on the Second Board dropped to 18.951 million units valued at RM5.4823 million from 73.589 million units valued at RM18.535 million previously.

Volume on the Mesdaq Market declined to 34.417 million shares worth RM4.781 million from 77.314 million shares worth RM8.942 million on Friday.

Warrants decreased to 14.318 million units valued at RM1.916 million from 16.116 million units valued at RM2.224 million previously.

On a sectoral basis, consumer products accounted for 22.448 million shares traded on the Main Board, industrial products 224.456 million, construction 43.457 million, trade/services 245.795 million, technology 7.770 million, infrastructure 9.964 million, finance 54.079 million, hotels 1.589 million, properties 92.836 million, plantations 21.310 million, mining 11,000, REITs 1.650 million and closed/fund 38,500. -- Bernama
