KL SHARES END ON MIXED NOTE AT MID-DAY

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 14 -- Share prices on Bursa Malaysia ended on a mixed note at mid-day today while steady gains were seen on key plantation stocks as crude palm oil prices stabilised after the recent drop, dealers said.

However, the fall in Maybank shares caused the benchmark Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) to end the morning session 2.65 points lower to 1,109.88.

The KLCI, which opened 2.36 points higher at 1,114.89, moved between 1,109.23 and 1,116.77 throughout the session.

The Industrial Index rose 8.40 points to 2,320.11 and the Plantation Index
gained 75.74 points to 5,707.44.

The Finance Index, however, lost 114.56 points to 8,734.01. Of the FTSE-BM Index series, the FBM2BRD shed 22.81 points to 5,305.88, the FBMMDQ erased 11.35 points to 4,305.22, the FBMEmas dropped 26.34 points to 7,131.37 and the FBM30 decreased 24.51 points to 7,400.21.

Losers led gainers by 134 to 225, 187 counters were unchanged, 803 untraded
and 25 suspended.

Turnover fell to 119.138 million shares worth RM279.381 from 145.597 million shares worth RM317.377 million yesterday.
