KL SHARES CLOSE HIGHER

KUALA LUMPUR, July 28 (Bernama) -- Share prices on Bursa Malaysia closed
higher today led by gains on selected heavyweights especially plantation-relate
stocks, dealers said.
At 5pm, the benchmark Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) rose 12.34 points
or 1.08 percent to 1,154.09, after opening 0.32 of a point higher at 1,142.07.
"Investors took cue from the uptrend on the Wall Street last Friday, and
Bank Negara Malaysia's decision to keep the overnight policy rate (OPR)
unchanged at 3.5 percent also provided support to the market," a dealer said.
The follow-through buying interest helped the key-index stay in the positiv
territory, he said, adding that the market will remain positive for this week.
At close, the Plantation Index gained 161.01 points to 6,383.01, the
Industrial Index added 5.46 points to 2,437.35 and the Finance Index increased
52.73 points to 8,874.98.
The FBMEmas rose 86.98 points to 7,665.70, the FBM30 climbed 86.73 points t
7,451.21, the FBM2BRD went up 36.91 points to 5,455.82 and the FBMMesdaq was
79.77 points higher at 4,341.19.
Advancers led losers by 495 to 140 while 187 counters were unchanged, 532
untraded and 32 suspended.
Volume today increased to 785.010 million shares valued at RM918.779
million from last Friday's 401.074 million shares valued at RM866.341
million.
The actives were led by Tebrau which increased 9.5 sen to 61 sen while MK
Land gained 2.5 sen to 23 sen, MRCB rose six sen to RM1.06 and Equine Park move
up 23 sen to 68 sen.
Among the heavyweights, Sime Darby and Maybank closed unchanged at RM8.00
and RM7.55 respectively, IOI COrp advanced 20 sen to RM5.70 and Tenaga added 25
sen to RM8.35
